CREATE TO HEAL PROGRAM

Create To Heal program’s main goal is to create a safe space that allows the client to develop their artistic skillset while helping them to change their thought patterns, emotional responses and inappropriate behaviors, as well as exploring their spiritual beliefs through their drawing and paintings. This 20-week program is specifically scheduled to provide sufficient art instruction in addition to group therapy sessions. The art sessions are broken up into alternative weeks to increase  their chances of successfully completing the program, as well as to improve their quality of life. Centers with different areas of art will be open for participants  and the client can participate in any area of art offered in our program. The benefits of art therapy are as follows:

Drawing:

Through drawing, clients learn to communicate through self-expression, how to identify conflicts that may be affecting their thoughts and how to process their emotions in a healthy way, in addition to developing social skills, . We explore drawing techniques of still-life, landscape, life models,, and various other drawing styles.

Painting

Clients are introduced to the basic elements of painting with little or no experience. Participants will work with acrylic colours and will explore the many ways paint can be handled. Instruction will be given on the preparation of materials and specific exercises will be given so that clients will explore colour, light, texture, transparency/impasto, and composition. Exercises grow with complexity as clients work to more developed pieces as time goes on

Group Sessions

A group discussion will be held after every art session in the corresponding week. Discussions are run for one hour and allow individuals to discuss and explore their underlying emotions. Clients learn to make genuine connections with their experiences and choices through therapy interventions into their focus. Clients have access to an art therapist within the program in order to accommodate any decline.
